DFRWS EU 2018 Conference was held March 21 to 23, 2019 at the CONVITTO DELLA CALZA – Oltrarno Meeting Center. DFRWS EU 2018 would like to extend a special thanks to ITTIG (Istito di Teoria e Tecniche dell’Informazione Giurdica). The generous support of ITTIG as a Co-Organizer of the event has made it possible to bring the DFRWS conference to Florence.
DFRWS EU 2018 published 15 peer-reviewed papers as a special issue of Digital Investigation Journal. The conference also featured 6 workshops, 3 short presentations, and keynote addresses by Dr. Katrin Franke and Eugenio Albamonte.

Keynotes
Dr. Katrin Franke
|Katrin Franke is professor of computer science at the NTNU Digital Forensics Group at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). In 2005 she obtained her Ph.D. degree at the Artificial Intelligence Institute, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. She is an alumni of the Technical University of Dresden in Germany with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduating in 1994, Dr. Franke began to conduct research at the Fraunhofer IPK in Berlin, Germany. Until December 2006, she has worked as a scientific project manager; leading research teams as well as internationally distributed project consortia. In 2007 Katrin Franke joined the Norwegian Information Security laboratory at Gjøvik University College in Norway, now NTNU Department of Information Security and Communication Technology (IIK). She conducts research in Computational Forensics, supervises Ph.D. projects and teaches courses in Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition at the PhD and master level.
Dr. Franke has published more than 180 scientific articles including one patent. She is involved in the organization of international conferences; the most prominent among them is the International Workshop on Computational Forensics (IWCF). Dr. Franke is a founding member of the IAPR-TC6 on Computational Forensics founded in 2008 and served as its chair. Katrin Franke is an IAPR* Young Investigator Awardee in the year 2009. Eugenio Albamonte
|Eugenio Albamonte is a magistrate and since 1995 he has played the role of public prosecutor in Italy at Cosenza and Grosseto.
From 2004 to 2009 he worked at the Superior Council of Magistracy, currently he is Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Court of Law in Rome (Italy). He deals with cybercrime, fight against child pornography and cyber terrorism. He is author of several papers and contributions in the fields of criminal law, judicial system, cybercrime and investigation techniques.
He carries out international activities within European public organizations devoted to judicial training, including the role of short term expert within projects funded by the European Union and the United Nations Organization (ONU) in support of judicial authorities of countries like Albania, Macedonia and Palestina. He also represents the Italian Ministry of Justice during international conferences in the field of fight against cybercrime.
He takes seminars on fight against cybercrime, organised by the Superior School of the Magistracy and professional associations. He teaches at Universities of Lucerna, Siena and Napoli where he takes courses on international cooperation in criminal matters.

RESEARCH PAPERS undergo double-blinded peer review, and the proceedings are published by Elsevier as a special issue of the Journal of Digital Investigation.
PRESENTATIONS, POSTERS, and DEMOS require a brief proposal, not a paper. These proposals undergo a light review process to select presentations of maximal interest to DFRWS attendees, and to filter out sales pitches. Presentation proposals must specify their target length from the following options: 20 minutes, 120 minutes (2 hours), 240 minutes (4 hours), or full day. Note, longer presentations and hands-on tutorials are referred to as ‘workshops’ described below.
WORKSHOPS / TUTORIALS can be several hours or full day, and typically include hands-on participation by attendees, allowing for an in-depth, detailed exploration of tools and techniques of interest to DFRWS attendees. Workshops can cover state-of-the-art research projects, useful tips and techniques for standard tools, or most anything that DFRWS attendees would consider beneficial. While commercial tools can be used, these workshops or tutorials should NOT be thinly-veiled commercial advertisements.
PANEL PROPOSALS: These should be one to three pages and clearly describe the topic, its relevance, and a list of potential panelists and their biographies. Panels will be evaluated based on the topic of relevance and diversity of the panelists.
DFRWS will provide one free conference registration for each accepted workshop / tutorial.

Student Scholarship and Award Program
DFRWS continues its outreach to students studying digital forensics. DFRWS and its sponsors will award one or more Student Travel Scholarships each year to students who present their accepted research papers. One scholarship will be awarded to the Best Student Research Paper awardee. More travel scholarships may be awarded, depending on sponsorship funding each year. Exact award amounts will vary, but are estimated to be between $1,000-$1,500 per award. Students must register (and pay the registration fee) for the conference and cover all travel expenses. The travel scholarships will be dispersed at the conference to reimburse student travel costs. DFRWS will notify the recipient of the Best Student Research Paper award on or before the conference registration deadline. Other awards (e.g. industry sponsored awards for research in specific topic areas) may be awarded after the registration deadline and are fully contingent on scholarship sponsorship by industry each year.
