DFRWS is open to fresh insights that challenge the current boundaries of digital forensics. The submissions can cover a broad range of topics related to digital forensics, including, but not limited to:

Multimedia Forensics Track

Additionally, the conference is specifically encouraging advances in multimedia forensics. The submissions can cover a broad range of topics including, but not limited to:

  • interpretable evidence for attribution of media content to its (physical or software) origin
  • methods to detect traces of various kinds of neural processing in image/video/audio (e.g. detecting full synthetization, partial synthetization, AI-powered enhancement, or AI-augmented acquisition)
  • data-driven deepfake detection/localization approaches that generalize to out-of-domain data
  • methods that combine existing algorithms for forgery detection/localization to provide an improved, unified output

Multimedia Forensics Track papers should be submitted to the appropriate track via the easychair link above, and should follow the same general submission guidance.

Digital Forensics Doctoral Symposium (DFDS)

We are also hosting the third Digital Forensic Doctoral Symposium (DFDS), co-located with the Digital Forensics Research Conference, providing a unique platform for doctoral students to share their early-stage research, engage in discussions with peers, and build connections within the digital forensics community.

Submission Information

The Digital Forensics Research Conference Europe  invites contributions in the categories listed below and follows the submission guidelines (https://dfrws.org/submission-criteria/):

Full Research Paper Submissions

FULL RESEARCH PAPERS with significant contributions that align with the topics of interest.

  • These undergo double-blinded peer review and are published in the proceedings (10 pages, blinded).
  • See the topic list above for indicative content of interest.
  • Submissions should align with the DFRWS vision to provide innovation and advances in digital forensics, provide practical solutions for real-world problems, and advance scientific practice in digital forensics, offering systematic processes and reliable results.
  • Note: SoK (Systematization of Knowledge), Survey, or literature review papers are not suitable for submission to the Digital Forensics Research Conference Europe.

Other Submissions

Full research papers that advance the state of knowledge in digital forensics are complemented by other types of presentations and sessions. Please also consider submitting any of the following:

  • INDUSTRY/PRACTITIONER PRESENTATIONS/DEMOS require a brief proposal (~500 words; not a paper) and undergo a light review process.  Submissions may present industry research, demonstrate new tools, report on real-world case studies, or share insights from industry trends and practice. Accepted proposals will be given a presentation slot (~15 min) during the conference.
  • POSTERS allow for the presentation of current research efforts and the discussion of preliminary results with the digital forensics community during a dedicated poster session.
  • WORKSHOPS can be 2 to 4 hours (please indicate) and ideally include hands-on participation by attendees, allowing for an in-depth, detailed exploration of tools and techniques of interest to DFRWS attendees. Workshops that result from research previously presented at DFRWS, or those involving specialized hardware, are especially welcome. DFRWS will provide one free conference registration for each workshop accepted.
  • BIRDS OF A FEATHER are informal gatherings and discussions of a specific topic without a pre-planned agenda. You may propose a topic that you feel is of interest to the community.

Submissions must be in PDF format and follow the submission criteria and guidelines (https://dfrws.org/submission-criteria/) stated to be within the scope of the conference. Organizers may reject work that does not follow the listed criteria.

Student Scholarship and Award Program

The Digital Forensics Research Conference Europe continues its outreach to students studying digital forensics. DFRWS, as the organisation behind the conference, supported by sponsors, will award one or more scholarships each year to students (first author) who present their accepted research paper in person.
